Ephesus Ancient City - Izmir "Ephesus" World Heritage Site included in the World Heritage List;  Çukuriçi Höyük consists of four components: Ayasuluk Hill (Selçuk Castle, St. John's Basilica, Isa Bey Bath, Isa Bey Mosque, Artemision), Ephesus Ancient City and Virgin Mary's House. Ephesus, one of the most important centers of the Ancient Period, has been inhabited continuously for approximately 9000 years, starting from the prehistoric period throughout the Hellenistic, Roman, Eastern Roman, Principalities and Ottoman periods, and has been a very important port city and cultural and commercial center at all stages of its history. In Ephesus, which houses symbols that shed light on the superior urbanization, architecture and religious history of the Hellenistic and Roman Periods, there are the most outstanding examples of architecture and urban planning from different periods.

Istanbul to Ephesus Tours 

During the period of the Roman Empire, the Greek port of Ephesus became the largest city in Asia Minor, and is the Mediterranean’s best-preserved classical city today. Your tour starts with the magnificent magnesian gate, then you’ll discover the huge forum, the impressive Odeon, Library of Celsus which has two floors, the Thermal Fifths of Scolastika, the work of an excellt engineering skills, and the huge great theatre which could seat a staggering 24000 people. Ephesus is about 10 miles away from Kusadasi, just before the town of Selcuk. After meeting with your tour guide and driving to Ephesus (45 minutes away), you will firstly visit the Artemission Temple which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Continuing to visit Ephesus, one of the 12 cities of lonia (an Ancient Greek district on the Western Coast of Asia minor) is located near lzmir. As a port city at the Cayster (modern Küçükmenderes) river, it was a major departure point for trade routes into Asia Minor. Known in antiquity for its sacred shrines, notably a famous temple (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) to the Goddess Artemis, Diana, the city was also an important center of early Christianity.

After the tour to Ephesus, lunch will be served in the garden of a local handicrafts center.

After lunch visit will be realized to House of Virgin Mary. This house is located on the Aladag Mountains which are 5 miles away from Ephesus. At the third Ecumenical Council of 431 in Ephesus, it was claimed that Mary came to Ephesus with St. John in 37 A.D and lived there until her death in 48 A.D. After the discover of the house,the Archbishop Izmir declared it as a palace of pilgrimage in 1892.

On july 26, 1967, the Pope Paul VI visited this place and prayed here.

We will drive to Izmir Airport for our flight back to Istanbul. After 1 hour flight, we will arrive in Istanbul to an hotel for overnight.
