Grand Mosque; Ancestor of All Mosques Built in the Ottoman Empire Period
Bursa Ulu Mosque is the great mosque built by Bayezid I between 1396-1400 in Bursa.
The mosque, which is one of the historical symbols of Bursa, is in the city center of Bursa, on Atatürk Street. It is considered the most classical and monumental example of the multi-legged mosque scheme. The twenty-domed structure is the largest mosque in Turkey with an inner congregation place. It is thought to be Mimann Ali Neccar or Hacı İvaz. The minbar of the mosque, made with the kündekari technique, is a valuable work of art, which is considered one of the most important examples of the transition from the Seljuk carving art to the Ottoman wood carving art.
192 calligraphy plates and graffiti written by different calligraphers in the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century on the walls of the mosque are among the original examples of calligraphy.
